Why Alfonsina? - We remember Alfonsina Storni (1892 - 1932) - maybe not a tango poet, but she loved and sang it with friends. As a journalist and women rights activist, she was bold in her metaphor. She saw your time as sharp, satirical, sarcastic and socially critical, but never accusatory. She just wanted to draw attention to the grievances of your time. So she wrote "Danzón Porteño" in the year of her suicide (1938). In this tango she describes, almost as in an intimate dialogue between the narrator and the personified city of Buenos Aires, contradictions and misery on the other side of the beautiful city.
